Earth Day and Why the Work Still Matters
As SelfEco Garden has grown over the years, one thing has stayed clear to me.
What we make matters.
Our two product lines exist for a simple reason. To reduce plastic waste that ends up in oceans, rivers, and landscapes all over the world. That problem has only grown since we first started talking about it.
Plastic does not disappear. It just moves.
Compostable Products Are Not One Size Fits All
More cities around the world are now requiring compostable products. That is progress. But compostable does not mean perfect for every situation.
Caterers, restaurants, and event planners care deeply about presentation. The plate, the cup, the container. It all matters. Too often, sustainability solutions fall short in real use.
That is why it has been rewarding to see SelfEco products accepted in real world settings. Locally, companies like Pryes Brewing Company have embraced them. On a larger scale, companies like Facebook, Netflix, Delta, and Walmart have used them too.
That tells me we are building products that work, not just products that sound good.

Made in Stillwater, Minnesota
Every SelfEco Garden product is made in Stillwater, Minnesota by our manufacturing partner, VistaTek.
Over the past few years, VistaTek has raised the bar on sustainability inside the facility. The goal of becoming landfill free is ambitious, but it no longer feels unrealistic.
In less than a year, we redirected more than fifty large gaylords of plastic away from landfills. That is close to ten thousand pounds that did not end up buried.
We also upgraded every production station and replaced lighting throughout the office and production floor with LED lights. The result is better working conditions, lower energy use, and more consistent lighting for quality checks.
Good lighting leads to better parts. It is that simple.
Showing Up for the Community
Sustainability is not only about materials and buildings. It is also about people.
During a winter with record snowfall, the St Croix River threatened to flood downtown Stillwater. The city asked for volunteers.
SelfEco and VistaTek showed up.
That matters to me just as much as any internal metric.

Small Changes Still Add Up
The Earth is strong, but it is also fragile. The good news is that we do not need to solve everything at once.
Small changes matter. Choosing better materials. Reducing waste. Supporting companies that take responsibility for what they make.
That thinking is what drives our garden products.
Plantable pots let gardeners plant the entire container and let it break down naturally in the soil.
Our 3 inch round plantable pot is ideal for starting plants and small transplants.

The 4 inch round pot works well for vegetables, herbs, and larger starts.

For growers and retailers that need more strength, compostable options like the Eco 3.0 Grande pot provide durability while still reducing plastic use.

Every Day Counts
Earth Day should not be the only day we think about this stuff.
If we appreciate the Earth every day, not just once a year, the future looks a lot better.
There is no backup plan.
